Container load calculator

Container Load Calculator with 3D Load Plans

Find out how much fits in a shipping container before you book it. TRUXE calculates the best arrangement for your cartons, pallets and crates in 20 ft, 40 ft and 45 ft containers and shows the result in 3D, with volume and weight totals.

More than a CBM calculator

A simple CBM calculation tells you the total volume of your cargo, but not whether it will actually fit. Boxes cannot be squashed into leftover gaps, some items cannot be stacked, and heavy cargo often hits the weight limit long before the container is full.

TRUXE places each item in the container individually, respecting its dimensions, orientation and stacking rules, so the answer you get is a real loading arrangement, not an estimate.

What you get

  • How many units fit, and what does not fit if the order is too large
  • Total cubic volume (CBM) and weight against the container's limits
  • A 3D view of the loaded container you can rotate and inspect
  • Stacking rules per item: set a maximum stack load or mark items as nothing on top
  • Support for mixed cargo: pallets, cartons, crates, drums, IBCs and more in one load
  • A PDF load plan and Excel manifest for your warehouse team or freight forwarder

Container sizes

TRUXE includes standard 20 ft, 40 ft and 45 ft sea containers alongside more than 90 truck and trailer presets. If you are loading a non-standard container, enter its internal dimensions and payload as a custom vehicle.

As a rough guide, a 20 ft container holds around 33 CBM and a 40 ft container around 67 CBM, but the usable space depends on your item sizes. That is exactly what the calculator works out.

How to calculate a container load

  1. Enter each item's outside dimensions as packed, its weight and quantity, or import a CSV or Excel file.
  2. Pick the container size.
  3. Run the plan and review the 3D result, volume used and weight.
  4. Download the report and share it with the packing team.

Frequently asked questions

How many pallets fit in a 20ft container?

It depends on the pallet size and whether they can be stacked. Standard Australian 1165 x 1165 mm pallets fit differently from 1200 x 1000 mm pallets. Enter your pallet size in TRUXE and it will show the exact number and layout.

How is container capacity measured?

Container capacity is measured in cubic metres (CBM) of internal space and a maximum payload weight. A 20 ft container is about 33 CBM and a 40 ft container about 67 CBM. Heavy cargo can reach the weight limit before the space is full.

How do I calculate CBM?

CBM = length x width x height x quantity divided by 1,000,000 when measured in centimetres. TRUXE calculates CBM automatically and also checks whether the items physically fit.

Can I load mixed cargo in one container?

Yes. You can combine pallets, cartons, crates, drums and other pack types in one plan, each with its own stacking rules.
